Here are some localized subreddits: •. I'd request an alternate delivery codec that works for Windows based systems. Silly that it's assumed everyone can build ProRes files.
Most networks will have an alternate available. If an alternate isn't available start by making a DNxHD at the highest bitrate available for the resolution/rate of your project.
Take the DNxHD file (.mxf) and transcode it on a Mac. Alternately if you have the hardware you could baseband the video through a recorder (KiPro or similar) that can build record ProRes files for you. I'd have a strong preference for SDI over HDMI in this instance. I totally agree that it's silly most places assume everyone can output to ProRes with no hassle. We do have some macs in the building, but none of our grading/online suites are macs.
In the past when we've had to do ProRes we would do a mixdown of the whole sequence and then same as source export (unable to export straight to ProRes as we needed the 'Direct Out' audio option for 4 tracks of audio in the master) - which is a pretty big pain and quite time consuming also, especially when you have 30 episodes to output. I just asked my superior and he doesn't want to request an alternate delivery codec since 'ProRes is a requirement, it's what we've been asked to supply'. I think my best options are to either AMA link in all my DNxHD 185 X mxf masters on one of the macs, transcode them all to prores, and export same as source, or to buy Apple's Compressor and feed it my masters. Those should both work right? Apple's ProRes family is basically used on Mac OS X, not for Windows. But, on thinking it over, there are many users are eager to convert videos to ProRes on Windows PC for different demands, here we'd like to recommend you an excellent.
