Harbinger Manuals
I have a Harbinger HA60 PA system for a small band I have going on, and use it mainly for vocals, keyboard, acoustic guitar, and sometimes bass. I'm relatively new to sound equipment. The front has all the inputs as well as knobs for the levels of the individual channels, and the back has the outputs for the 2. There is also, however, a part on the back that says 'Main insert' and the instruction manual isn't very clear on what it is.
I've included a picture of the instruction manual's description (main insert is #4). Please help explain this in more simple terms? Picture: http://bit.ly/wz22ZW.

Best Answer: According to the Harbinger HA60 Owner’s Manual on Page 5, it states: 'This unbalanced insert point is a break between the main out and built-in amplifier to allow the main output to be sent to an external signal processor. The insert is a 1/4’’ TRS phone jack which is normally bypassed. When a jack is inserted, the signal path is broken. The main output signal appears on the TIP of the plug and the external signal is returned on the RING. An unbalanced 1/4” insert cable may be required to connect to equipment with separate send and return jacks.' What that means is if you plug a 1/4' stereo or balanced TRS plug into that jack, you can send the signal from the input side to an effects loop or effects processor like that BOSS VE-20 vocal effects processor and it will return the effects from the VE-20 and then send the combined signal out to the speakers. However, they did not engineer that very well in my opinion because they are using a TRS Jack to send and receive TS (unbalanced or mono) output and input respectively.
So what you really need (if you want to use this jack) is a TRS splitter that divides the signal into two 1/4' TS jacks so that you can use one side for output and the other side for input. You can also achieve the very same result by placing your effects loop or effects processor between the microphone and the HA60. Taekwondo Techniques For Beginners. Although they may have have wired a capacitor to the MAIN Insert's output side to compensate for a stronger signal coming from the effects processor. Most vocal effects processors use XLR connectors anyway so in addition to the TRS to TS splitter you may also need one or two XLR to TS adapters as well.
You could also use it to add a backing track with the music you wanted to sing along with I suppose but, you can also do that with the AUX input if you wanted to practice without the band, for instance. • Tell us some more • Upload in Progress • Upload failed.
